Natural Spring Water, with no chemicals added, and purified according to the highest local and international standards using a totally natural biological purification system.
Access Natural Water (Pvt) Ltd, bearing the brand name “Aquafresh”, is a subsidiary of Access International (Pvt) Ltd. We started in the year 2001 with a vision of “…quench the thirsty world natures way profitably…”. Now we have established as one of the largest bottled water companies in Sri Lanka, with a considerable amount of quality conscious clientele.
The water for the production process is extracted from natural springs, located 200ft below the bedrock (where the purest springs are located/location of the purest springs, untouched by external contaminants). They are reached through deep wells that are located in the Labugama-Kalatuwava forest range, in the wet zone of Sri Lanka. The Labugama-Kalatuwava forest range is known to be one of the best “untouched” and conserved tropical rain forests in Sri Lanka. Another important aspect to differentiate our product from other brands of water is the biological purification process that conforms to a method known as a ‘bio-physical filtration system’, which mimics the natural purification process that occurs in streams.
The main methods using chemicals for water purification are adding ‘Alum’ (Aluminum Hydroxide) and chlorine. These methods may have hazardous effects on prolonged exposure to the health unless controlled properly. On the contrary, when using a biological purification system such as ours, there is no addition of any chemical compound throughout the entire production process.
Therefore when using naturally purified water, the possible health hazards associated with chemical treatment will no longer be an issue.
“Aquafresh” water is extracted from natural springs deep beneath the surface of the earth and is subsequently passed through a series of deep wells, where the water is filtered using a process that mimics the natural filtration of water. Thereafter, water is passed through a large number of natural filters (i.e. rock filters, sand filters, and micron filters etc.).
While the water is filtered under these strict conditions, it gets nourished with oxygen - the “life on earth”. It is then filled into bottles and packed, which are performed under strictly hygienic conditions. Subsequently, careful inspection and a number of laboratory tests are conducted in our fully equipped in-house testing and research facility before the water is dispatched.
SLS is the product certification scheme of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute, which is popularly known as the "SLS Mark Scheme". This is a system that gives the third party guarantee on the quality of a product.
The SLS 894 standard lays down the required quality parameters of bottled drinking water. This scheme enables the SLSI to grant permits to local as well as overseas manufacturers producing goods to conform to Sri Lanka Standards to carry the "SLS" mark on their products. Sri Lanka Standards Institution Act No.6 of 1984, and the regulations made there under empower the Sri Lanka Standards Institute to issue such permits to manufacturers. On conformation of compliance of the product, the certificate is granted. Access Natural Water (Pvt) Ltd under the brand name “AquaFresh” was able to obtain SLS 894 in the year 2003; just 2 years after its inception and was also the first to obtain it in the country.
ISO 9001: 2000 system which gives the requirements for quality management systems, is now firmly established as the globally implemented standard for providing assurance about the ability to satisfy quality requirements and to enhance customer satisfaction in supplier-customer relationships. To keep customers satisfied, the organization needs to meet their requirements. The ISO 9001:2000 standard provides a tried and tested framework for taking a systematic approach to managing the organization's processes so that they consistently turn out product that satisfies customers' expectations (Adopted form International Standards Organization website).
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has developed the ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management Systems Standard. Officially called ISO 22000:2005, Food safety management systems - Requirements for any organization in the food chain, ISO 22000 is an international standard and defines the requirements of a food safety management system covering all organizations in the food chain from “farm to fork”, including catering and packaging companies.
There has been a continuous increase in consumer demand for safe food. This has led to the development of numerous food safety standards. The growing number of national standards for food safety management has led to confusion. Consequently, there is a need for international harmonization and ISO aims to meet this need with ISO 22000 (Adopted form the British Standards Institute website).
The Dutch HACCP Code is a technical specification which sets out the “Requirements for a HACCP based Food Safety System” according to the Dutch standards. This technical specification has been designed by the Dutch National Board of Experts, which is made up of government, enforcement and trade agencies, food retailers, food producers and processors, trade associations and consumer organizations.
